Hello, World!
Welcome back! Follow the Instructions Below for 2/8/2024

PLANS FOR 2/8/2024 and 2/9/2024
Practice three problems from last year. Two points if you solve it on the board for which shape it is. Practice for your Geopoly game. USE THE NOTES ON THE BOARDS. (15 minutes)
Make your own Geopoly peices. I recommend using flash cards. I showed you examples last class. (30 minutes)
Play the game. Rules below. Take a picture of the game at the end. USE THE NOTES ON THE BOARD. Example picture at the bottom, but the cards are facing the wrong way. (55 minutes)
GEOPOLY
MATERIALS: gamepeice
two die,
FOUR sets of three from last year
YOUR set of cards
Two Sets of Chance Cards
ONE GO, ONE FREE PARKING, ONE JAIL, ONE GO TO JAIL CARDS. There is an example set up on the whiteboard by the names and the picture below.
Gameplay: Groups of four to five people. ABSOLUTELY no groups of three. Be a group of six if you must. Oldest student goes first, youngest goes last. Designate one person as the score keeper (Banker).
Roll the die. Complete problem for point(s) and ask person whose problem it is, “AM I CORRECT?” If person says, “YES, YOU ARE CORRECT,” add designated point total written card or the white boards. Check with Banker.
SCORING: FORWARD MOVING PROBLEM (1 POINT), BACKWARD MOVING PROBLEM (2 POINTS), SOLVING FOR RADIUS OR FINDING A MISTAKE (3 POINTS)
Roll the die again.
Students can roll while other students are working on their card. Student is unable to roll AGAIN unless the personS before them have already answered their question and rolled their turn.
If you land on a card a second time, you can build (draw) a house on the card in pencil. Anytime AFTER you draw your house, you can collect an extra point for answering the question if you land on that spot again AND you can build (draw in pencil) another house. Four houses make a hotel. A hotel is six points.
Winner gets five extra points on the next test.
Please allow enough time to put materials back.
Perimeter and area (1/11 1/12) Period 1, 2, 4
It would be helpful if the adult in the class can get copies made of an empty 1-cm grid paper found in the middle of the room.
Warm Up: (15 minutes)
Complete RANDOM three problems in your notebook from the worksheet linked here.
I will not collect the above assignment today. You do not have to copy the figure down.
Lesson:
Next, check out the Area Formulas before proceeding to the next assignment. (5 minutes)
ACTIVITY 1 (30 minutes)
PICK UP A USED WHITE (period 4 colored paper) GRAPH PAPER FROM THE MIDDLE OF THE ROOM. You will most likely not find a new one.
DRAW THE FOLLOWING SHAPES ON THE GRAPH PAPER: I have rulers in the room.
Square, rectangle, acute triangle, obtuse triangle, right triangle, parallelogram, trapezoid and hexagon. If you are unsure of what the shapes look like, google them. Find the perimeter and area of these shapes.
(There are many examples on my front table from yesterday’s classes.
Activity 2: (20 minutes)
Plot at least 12 points on a 1-cm grid paper provided to create an animal. Connect the points to create an outline of an animal. Find the perimeter of your animal using inches or centimeters. You can see examples on my wall. (20 minutes)
Find the Area of your animal by breaking it down into sections. DO NOT BREAKDOWN THE ANIMAL on your original paper. Show work in notebook. (15 minutes)
Switch animals with someone else and have them verify your perimeter and area. Write down who verified your answers. (10 minutes)
Complete five composite area problems of your choice from this WS in your notebook. (20 minutes)
Geo(ignore the instructions below)
Day 2 (Find area of previously drawn animal.) Find the area of the animal. (3x)
Break down animal into known shapes or _______________________________ .
Compare calculated measurements with measured data in centimeters.
Share with a partner, and have a partner do the same calculations.

Surface Area (1/18) Period 5
Simplify three problems on the board. Put your name on them.
You are completing the following tasks with your table group.
Find a net for a cube (there is a bin full of them in my room). Find the surface area of the cube.
Cut out a net for a rectangular prism (use old graph paper). Find the surface area of the rectangular prism.
Cut out a net for a triangular prism (use old graph paper). Find the surface area of the triangular prism.
Cut out a net for a square pyramid (use old graph paper). Find the surface area of the square pyramid.
Cut out a net for a rectangular pyramid (use old graph paper). Find the surface area of the rectangular pyramid.
Cut out either a hexagonal prism or hexagonal pyramid. Find the surface area of either one.
Complete practice quiz. (individual)

Copy down FIVE problems from the ELEVEN problems that are on the board. Pay attention to what you are copying down because you will do five of your own. Note that you must change the percent to a decimal by dividing by 100, and that you have to make a note of how many times it is being compounded. WHICH OF THE 11 SITUATIONS WOULD YOU CHOOSE? Write your answer in your notebook.
One point for anyone who displays these instructions on the TV.
